Pet discoveries · A different way to make dry food
Cold-pressed dog food? That was new to us, too.
An everyday bowl can lead to an unexpected question: how was the food inside it made?
The discovery is in the process
We tend to recognize dog food by what comes in the bag. Nextrition invites a different question: what happens before it reaches the bag? The brand describes its food as cold-pressed, using a pressing process rather than the conventional high-heat extrusion process it compares against.
That makes this an interesting food-category discovery. It does not, on its own, establish that one finished diet is healthier, safer or better suited to your dog than another. Processing is one part of the story; the complete recipe and your dog’s needs matter, too.
Meet Nextrition
Nextrition currently lists chicken, beef, lamb and salmon dog-food recipes, alongside Tummy Treats and trial-pack options. Availability varies: its variety trial pack showed out of stock when we checked, so check the store rather than assuming a sample is ready to ship.
What caught our attention is the chance to understand a familiar purchase from a new angle. For a dog owner who likes knowing how things are made, this is a useful starting point for questions—not a reason to abandon a food that already works well.
What we would check before choosing a bag
- Read the nutritional adequacy statement for the exact recipe and your dog’s life stage. AAFCO explains why that statement matters when selecting food.
- Compare ingredients, calorie information, feeding guidance and the cost per day, rather than comparing bag prices alone.
- If your dog has a medical condition, food sensitivity or prescribed diet, ask your veterinary team before changing food.
- Check the selected purchase option, shipping, subscription and cancellation terms at checkout. A small pack or an appealing process is not a guarantee of tolerance.
We have not fed or independently tested Nextrition. We are not making claims that it treats digestive problems, allergies or other conditions.
